In
Memory of Eugene K. Wolf
We lament the passing on 12 December 2002 of Eugene K. Wolf,
who worked with A-R Editions for over 25 years on more than 60 editions
as series editor for Recent Researches in the
Music of the Classical Era, having helped us to give shape to the series
almost from the time it began. As a musicologist, he made important contributions
to the field in his books and articles about the music of the classical
era, and especially on the music of Mannheim.
The quality of Gene’s work was recognized in the awards he received, including
those from the American Musicological Society and the Music Library Association.
Those who know Gene would comment on his outstanding and thorough scholarship
in the same breath in which they remarked about his extraordinary kindness
and generosity. Gene was a remarkable individual, and one who will be greatly
missed. We at A-R Editions appreciate the years of excellent leadership
that he gave our series, and it was a pleasure for us to know him. |
