Pietro Pariati's Pimpinone, composed by Albinoni in 1708, was one of the most representative and popular intermezzi of its day, remaining in the repertoire for over 30 years. As well as demonstrating for the first time in print Albinoni's qualities as an opera composer, his Pimpinone makes an interesting comparison with Telemann's later setting of the same libretto.
