Recent Researches in the Music of the Classical EraFranz BendaSix Sonatas for Solo Violin and Continuo with Embellished Versions Edited by Douglas A. Lee
Many eighteenth-century writer were lavish in their praise of Franz Benda's solo performances on the violin, noting particularly his skill in extemporaneous ornamentation. The written-out graces that appear in all movements of these sonatas provide extensive musical documentation for Benda's style of performance and, perhaps more important, for eighteenth-century performance practice in general.
