These two volumes of études, virtually unknown until now, are of considerable importance in the history of violin literature. The Caprices & Airs variés, first published in 1787, is the earliest collection of violin études to be printed. The Cinquante études appeared about 1800, and these pieces are also caprices and varied airs designed as study material.
