These concertos, written by the most famous and active violinist-composers
of Vivaldi's generation, were selected from one of the most important private
collections of instrumental music of the early eighteenth century, which
is now in the Bibliothèque National, Paris. The variety and flexibility
in these works document the progressive elements of the Italian concerto
of the early eighteenth century and foreshadow techniques of the emerging
Classical style.
