Recent Researches in the Music of the RenaissanceAdriano BanchieriCanzoni alla francese (of 1596) Edited by Leland Bartholomew
This volume contains early works of an imaginative and prolific composer who was a leading figure during the transition from the Renaissance to the baroque. The collection contains 11 four-part instrumental canzonas and three eight-voice vocal concertos. In style the music suggests the Venetian school; in quality it is equal to the output of Giovanni Gabrieli and his colleagues.
