Rossetti made his first appearance in print with this 1560 madrigal collection, which amply demonstrates his early mastery of the genre. The 36 madrigals are remarkable for their bold harmonic treatment of the texts, most of which are taken from Petrarch. "These pieces are well worth having in print, enabling us to round out our view of the mid-cinquecento madrigal, and providing a further fund of Petrarch settings for study and performance."
