Recent Researches in the Music of the RenaissanceAndré PevernageThe Complete Chansons Edited by Gerald R. Hoekstra
Pevernage's chansons, all of which were published between 1589 and 1597, feature lively rhythms, some chromaticism, frequent changes of texture and style, and madrigal-like settings of the more picturesque texts. Books I through III are devoted to chansons for five voices and Book IV to chansons for six, seven, and eight voices. Additional chansons, taken from anthologies published in 1590 and 1597, are for two or four voices. About a fourth of the chansons are chansons spirituelles, most of them collected in Book I. Poems by Marot, Ronsard, Desportes, and other are set in these chansons. Music Sample (R60) Music Sample (R61) Music Sample (R62) Music Sample (R63-64)
