We are pleased to announce the appointment of Alexander Dean as managing editor for Recent Researches in Music. Alex brings with him almost ten years’ experience as an editor at A-R Editions, during which time he has worked on a wide range of projects from the 16th century forward, including Balinese shadow play music, Taiwanese Buddhist chant, and twentieth-century Czech opera. His personal research interests include the intersection between oral and written traditions in seventeenth-century Italian song. He is a co-editor of Michele Pesenti’s Complete Works, volume 171 in the series Recent Researches in the Music of the Renaissance, and he has published articles in Recercare, Musica Disciplina (with Anthony Cummings), and Early Music. Prior to his career at A-R Editions, Alex earned a Ph.D. in musicology from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester, and he has taught classical guitar, music history, and music theory at The University of Akron, the Eastman School of Music, Nazareth College, Hamilton College, and Syracuse University.
Alex takes over this role from Danielle Pacha, who is retiring from A-R Editions in June 2021. Danielle has served as managing editor since July 2015, during which time she has been an especially effective leader and supervisor for the editorial team and has expertly managed the very active publication schedule each year. Prior to this role, Danielle also served as senior editor and editor for the Recent Researches in Music series, beginning in 2003. All of us at A-R Editions will miss her as both a friend and a colleague, and we wish her all the best in the new adventures that await her!
