Twelve of Antonio Bononcini's cello sonatas form a dazzling set which he composed at Bologna ca. 1693, making them among the earliest known cello sonatas. The remaining three sonatas in this edition are later works. The last, with an attribution only to "Bononcini," may be by Antonio's older brother, Giovanni. A facsimile of Giovanni's only known cello sonata, published in 1748, is given in the appendix.
