This work by Eugène Bozza (1905–91) was found in manuscript form in the Médiathèque Simone Veil in Valenciennes, France. On the cover page of this unnamed, unpublished, and undated music is printed, “VAUDEAU MARCEL,” and musical notes are written below each letter. Marcel Veaudeau was a friend of Bozza in Valenciennes, and the editor posits that the music was written as a tribute to him, explaining the title that was chosen for this edition, Pièce sur le nom de Marcel Veaudeau. This music by Bozza features a floridly romantic violin solo with a dramatic piano accompaniment. The fifteen-minute, never-before published work for violin and piano is a showpiece for both instruments.
Lois Kuyper-Rushing, Associate Dean of the Louisiana State University Libraries, wrote her doctoral dissertation on the music of Eugène Bozza. Kuyper-Rushing authored the 2020 book, Eugène Bozza: A Thematic Index. She worked with Bozza manuscripts in the Médiathèque Simone Veil in Valenciennes, France, where his papers are found.
