This publication is a set of three volumes, each sold separately.
Few arrangements of music from the era around 1800 are available in modern score and performing editions. This three-part set, Chamber Arrangements of Beethoven’s Symphonies, helps correct the balance. The three volumes round out our understanding of chamber music in this era and fill gaps in today’s offerings of chamber music for performance and study. Part 1 represents arrangements for quartet ensembles of various kinds, one of the most popular media for arrangement in the era. Part 2 comprises string quintet arrangements; it helps with a fuller understanding of the popularity and high status of this genre, whereas previous scholarship has focused on original string quintets from the era. Part 3 fills a gap in modern-day repertoire for sextet, septet, and nonet, pointing to the thirst for chamber music for large-scale forces in an era in which orchestral music was often difficult to stage in its original form.
