Taken mainly from the repertoires of prima donnas associated with Parisian operas, this anthology of twenty-two arias by Bellini, Boieldieu, Isouard, Meyerbeer, Mozart, and Rossini presents cadenzas and melodic variants depicting ornamentation practices in prevailing traditions. Half of the examples reflect the artistry of Laure Cinti-Damoreau, the creator of many roles of Rossini's Paris operas, while the others originate with such singers as Jenny Lind, Giuditta Pasta, and Barbara Marchisio. Melodic variants depicting the ornamentation practices of various nineteenth-century opera singers are found in this anthology. Winner of the MPA Paul Revere Award, 1990.
