Christoph Graupner was a prolific composer who earned the respect of his contemporaries for the quality of his music. Graupner wrote a total of forty-eight concertos, of which five have a concertino of two violins and a ripieno of two violins, viola, and cembalo. These works demonstrate a variety of techniques that are absent from his more numerous wind concertos. This edition is the first publication of Graupner's complete concerti grossi for two violins, based on the unique manuscript source in Darmstadt (Mus. ms. Codex 411).
