We want you to have and enjoy our music. We put a lot of effort and expense into publishing it and we did it for you. We ask only that you respect our effort. Here’s the legal part:
No part of any copyrighted work available from A-R Editions or the American Institute of Musicology sold or displayed on this website may be reproduced or transmitted in any form by any electronic or mechanical means (including photocopying, recording, or information storage and retrieval) without permission in writing from the A-R Editions or other rights holders.
The purchase of music (in print or digital format) from A-R Editions or the American Institute of Musicology does not convey the right to perform it in public or to make a recording of it for any purpose. Permission for performance or recording must be obtained in advance from the publisher and any other rights holders.
We have a unique service that greatly simplifies copyright permissions for you if you subscribe to any of our music series. It is available only to patrons of libraries with a direct standing order and to individual subscribers. We grant these customers a limited permission to reproduce any part of an edition for non-profit study or performance. The copyright-sharing policy applies if the following criteria are met:
- The material to be reproduced belongs to a series to which the library or individual has a direct standing order. Orders through third-party vendors and individual book orders do not apply.
- The use is limited to personal study or not-for-profit performance.
To take advantage of the policy, please request permission in writing from A-R Editions. Faculty members, students, and library patrons are invited to participate and may use the Copyright Sharing Form.
The American Institute of Musicology has a similar copyright-sharing policy. See the AIM website for more information.
Permission for Use
